Haiti Amputee Soccer Team
By Kate Moore
Super 8 Motel owner Bruce Wacasey has donated rooms to the Haiti Amputee Soccer Team again this week. The soccer team is touring the U.S. to raise awareness of adaptive sports in the U.S. and give hope to other amputees and people with disabilities.
The Haiti Amputee Soccer Team has done exhibitions at the VA Hospital in Dallas and San Antonio, Harker Heights Adaptive Sports Center in Harker Heights, Adaptive Sports of Houston and Memorial High School of Houston, to name a few. They competed in the Amputee World Cup also.
These inspiring athletes range in ages from 23 to 39 years. They are proving to anyone who watches them that they are not disabled. Their sport is a little different from the soccer we are accustomed to. Goalies are only allowed to have one arm and other players are missing legs and use crutches to play the sport they love.
You can see photos of the Haiti Amputee Soccer team and find out where they will be holding an exhibition on their website: International Institute of Sport. Their U.S. tour is funded entirely by private donations.
