Musical performances, simulators and a performance by the Blue Angels are just some of the events scheduled for Dallas/Fort Worth Navy week, which runs through April 17.
Navy brass, including Frisco resident Rear Adm. Kenneth Carodine, are hosting more than a dozen events throughout the Metroplex.
"The Navy Week program started a few years ago when the chief of naval operations realized that middle America had lost touch with its Navy," Carodine said. "We started this outreach program to hold one week public relations blitzes across the US. This year we will hold 60 to 65 of these events."
"I enjoy visiting the schools," he said. "When I talk to the young people of America, I want to take the message that you still live in the greatest country in the world. Even the lowliest of us can rise to significant levels of responsibility. I was the first person in my family to join the Navy. Since attending the Naval Academy, I have had an exciting and rewarding career in the Navy. I tell kids that the only thing that limits people is their dreams and hard work."
Carodine said he and his wife moved to Frisco nine years ago and enjoy the city. His naval career began in1982 when he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy. He served aboard the USS Ranger during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He is currently the Deputy Commander with the Navy Warfare Development Command.
