Alta Mae "Bill" Lovelady went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 21, 2011, at 94 years of age.
She was born May 19, 1916, in Collin County to Maude and Dee Witt Burnside.
She met Charlie Lovelady while attending school at Milligan, Texas. They married June 24, 1933, at Durant, Oklahoma and enjoyed more than 60 years together before Charlie passed away in 1994.
They lived in McKinney since their marriage, except for 10 months when they moved to Waco because of the tornado in 1948. Charlie and Alta had many friends who knew them as "Buddy" and "Bill."
They loved the Lord and brought up their children to know and love the Lord as they did. They endured many hardships but had an amazing and happy life. She loved to talk about growing up on a farm and the good times she had.
In her early working career, she worked as a weaver in the Textile Mill at McKinney, Texas. Later, she was the manager of "The Annex" department store in downtown McKinney.
She enjoyed sewing, making quilt tops, and crocheting. She made sure all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren had something she made.
She was a longtime member of King Memorial Baptist Church, McKinney and enjoyed being a devotional leader, Sunday school teacher, working with children, and other church activities.
She will be remembered as someone who loved doing for others and enjoyed being with people. She was always cooking something to take to someone, whether it was someone sick or just a new neighbor.
She loved being around her family. She worked six days a week, went to church on Sunday, and still managed to cook lunch every Sunday for her children and grandchildren. Her devotion to her family and friends will always be remembered.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie; their infant son, Ronald Dee; her parents, Dee Witt and Maude Taylor Burnside; two brothers, Prentiss and Eldon Burnside; and one sister, Velma Stiff. She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jack Pennington, Betty's husband.
She is survived by her two daughters and son-in-law, Glenda and Gene Evans of Allen, Texas, and Betty Pennington of Anna, Texas; four grandsons and their families: James and Lenore Evans of Allen, and their children, Rachel, Matthew, Jared and Charlie; Danny and Kathy Evans of Allen, and their children, Robert, John, and Makaylee; Curtis Pennington of Trenton, Texas, and children, Kassie and Jack Peyton; and Bart and Wendy Pennington of Anna, and their children, Nikki and Chrissy.
We especially want to thank Dr. Siddique and all the other doctors, nurses and staff at Homestead of McKinney. You have been kind and caring and provided excellent care during these past years. You helped to make her stay as pleasant as possible.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 23, 2011, at Pecan Grove Cemetery in McKinney with Dr. James (Bob) Evans officiating. The family will receive friends for a visitation prior to the service from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home.
