WinterBlast to offer snowy fun
By Dan Eakin, deakin@acnpapers.com
The annual WinterBlast is Saturday at the Dr. Pepper StarCenter McKinney at Craig Ranch.
Attendees are promised lots of fun, both on and off the ice rink.
The purpose of the event, sponsored for the second straight year by the McKinney Parks, Recreation and Open Space (MPROS) Department, is not only to provide a good time but also inspire residents to get involved in activities that will promote good health.
"Do not let the cold winter months get you down," said Laura Cegelski, coordinator for this year's WinterBlast. "Get up, get moving and see what WinterBlast is all about. Find out which activity best motivates you and your family. WinterBlast is designed to promote family friendly recreation opportunities in McKinney that encourages everyone to get up and get moving in 2012."
The event is free for all ages. Ice skating will be from noon to 2 p.m., and other activities off the ice will be available from noon to 4 p.m.
Attendees may watch ice skating exhibitions, build a snowman, play pickleball or beach tennis, and take part in numerous other games.
"You can have your hair spray painted, get a tattoo and visit the popular arts-and-crafts activities," Cegelski said.
Fifteen vendors will be there to provide resourceful community information. A snow-making machine will be at the event, as will several new activities.
"There just might be a few more wintry surprises in the making," Cegelski said.
Dr. Pepper StarCenter McKinney at Craig Ranch is located at 6993 Stars Ave. in McKinney. For more WinterBlast information, call 972-547-7491.
