15-4A SOFTBALL: Poteet wins season finale, but falls short of playoff berth
By DEVIN HASSON, dhasson@starlocalnews.com
Poteet did everything within its power on Friday to make the playoffs.
Unfortunately for the Pirates, it was not quite enough.
Despite a 8-7 victory over Waxahachie, Poteet was left out of the playoff picture due to Red Oak's 2-0 win over Lancaster.
Poteet knew that just to have a chance at making the playoffs it would need to knock off Waxahachie, which had already wrapped up a postseason berth.
The Pirates delivered, as Madison Yannetti had a pair of doubles and Darianne Hale added another two-bagger as they banged out 13 hits in all. Cassie Vasquez picked up the victory on the mound for Poteet, which finishes with a 18-12 overall record.
West Mesquite's season ended on a down note, as it fell to Forney in a 20-0 loss.
The Jackrabbits will be the second seed in the playoffs, which begin this week. District champion Ennis, who finished the 15-4A season with an undefeated record, is the top seed.
