The Celina Association for Renaissance Excellence netted more than $30,000 with this year's silent and live auctions.
Proceeds will be used for scholarships and incentives for Celina students.
The event celebrated the twentieth anniversary of C.A.R.E. Over the last two decades C.A.R.E. has helped hundreds of Celina students. The event also honored Brenda Goodell who was one of the founding members of C.A.R.E.
From the auction program: “Her enthusiasm, grace and devotion to education inspired all that knew her. Brenda was passionate about providing the students of Celina opportunities to improve and continue their education. She truly had a caring spirit.”
Hundreds of Celina women shopped the items in the silent auction before and during the box lunch. The box lunch was provided by the Durning House Restaurant in Van Alstyne.
There were a few tense moments during the live auction with Phillip Pierceall of Swing City Auctions acting as auctioneer.
“It's the best auction we've ever had. It set a record,” C.A.R.E. member Kristy Campbell said. “It is a testimony to our community and how everyone pulls together.”
She was also pleased with the way the event honored Brenda Goodell.
“Everyone is looking forward to what that money can do,” she said.
Campbell is a member of C.A.R.E. and served as publicity chairwoman for this year's event.
C.A.R.E. seeks to inspire and reward academic achievement throughout the district by awarding scholarships and incentives to students. Not all of the scholarships are for college attendance. Students planning to attend vocational schools are also eligible to apply for scholarships.
“That's always our goal is to do better than we've done the year before,” Campbell said.
C.A.R.E. more than achieved its goal this year and all for the benefit of Celina ISD students.
