Motorcycle accident claims life of Little Elm man

Published: Thursday, March 29, 2012 4:36 PM CDT
A motorcycle accident last Saturday claimed the life of a 24-year-old Little Elm man.

The Little Elm Police and Fire Departments responded to a call shortly after 7:30 p.m. Saturday on Farm-to-Market Road 423. Two motorcycles and a Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck were involved in a wreck just north of Smotherman Road.

Both motorcyclists were riding side by side in the southbound lane of FM 423 when the pickup truck ahead of them began to slow down. It is not known if the truck began to slow down for traffic or another reason.

The 24-year-old on one of the motorcycles soon lost control of his bike when the truck began to slow. He laid the bike down when he lost control and slid along the road. It is believed that he slid into the back of the truck.

The other motorcyclist, the 39-year-old stepfather of the young man, lost control of his bike as well and slid up and over the curb at Smotherman Road. He sustained injuries and was taken to Frisco Centennial Hospital for treatment.

Responders to the accident had called for CareFlite but later cancelled it, instead taking the man and his stepfather to the hospital by ambulance. The 24-year-old was officially pronounced dead at the hospital.

Both motorcyclists were not wearing helmets at the time of the accident. The driver and passenger in the truck, both 20 years old, were not hurt.

The accident is still under investigation.
