Feeling younger and living healthier

Groundbreaking trends don't come along very often. But when they do, they change the ways of thinking and living permanently. Computers and cell phones have had this kind of impact.

There's a health revolution going on right now that has uncovered how we can live healthy and vital lives from youth throughout our golden years. I stumbled over it right here in Plano.

Recently at my local grocery, the staff was pouring samples of a product called Via 5 Alive and they said was supposed to be good for me. Reluctantly, I tried it. As I was walking away, I noticed a woman filling her shopping cart with more than a dozen bottles of Via 5 Alive. I asked her, "So what is this product? You must really like it."

She told me, "I love it. Since I started drinking this stuff, my energy has increased. My husband's blood sugar levels have evened out and his doctor is very happy about getting his diabetes under control. I've tried the juice drinks but this is real fruit, real food and it works."

I asked the department manager about it and she said, "When we first got this product in, I was skeptical because of the juice products that we carry. But our customers who try Via 5 Alive come back to us raving about how much better they feel after drinking only an ounce a day for a few short weeks. Shoppers are smart and they get that Via 5 Alive is not juice. The fact that they get the equivalent of 5 servings of fruits and vegetables in every ounce is easy for them to understand."

By happenstance, when my wife and I went on a weekend trip to visit family in Vernon, Texas, I found Via 5 Alive again in the local grocery. The manager there told me they sold 120 bottles in just 6 weeks.

"It has really taken off. People try it, it helps their health issues and they come back for more. Everyone knows they need more fruits and vegetables and this product is a convenient way to get what they need to be healthy. We can't keep it on the shelf."

Terry Brown, a nutritionist in Graham, Texas, featured Via 5 Alive in his newsletter Bottom to Bottom. Terry explains that the human body was designed to thrive on whole food. He goes on to say that

Via 5 Alive's whole food puree gives the consumer all the micronutrients of 13 whole fruits including a broad array of antioxidants, which are responsible for the anti-inflammatory effect that reduces inflammation and aches and pains in the body. Brown reveals that the product so impressed medical personnel at Graham's local nursing home that they purchased dozens of bottles for their residents.

At Via5Alive.com, I found that the product is available in multiple retailers including: Central Market, Market Street, HEB and Sunflower (a complete list of retailers is listed on the website). I called a few of the store managers who told me that Via 5 Alive quickly became the #1 seller in their department. One manager told me that her product sales average about 80 bottles a month and they have multiple displays throughout their stores.

While researching the company, which is based right here in Plano, I learned that the product is the passionate journey of its founder and owner Craig Keeland. Keeland told me that he set a goal in 1991 to develop an all natural product that would help people feel younger longer and live healthier lives. He says it took 12 years to develop Via 5 Alive in its current form. First launched in 2003, the product has sold over 20 million bottles worldwide and is now undergoing a retail launch in the United States.

The latest nutritional research points to whole food as superior to pill or capsule supplements for health.

The Mayo Clinic's website: "Supplements [pills] aren't intended to be a food substitute because they can't replicate all of the nutrients and benefits of whole foods such as fruits and vegetables." (Nutrition and Healthy Eating, MayoClinic.com)

Dr. JoAnn Manson of Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School states that a healthy diet rich in fruits and vegetables may lower cancer risk and simply popping a few vitamin pills cannot mimic the powerful benefits of whole foods.

The Journal of the American Heart Association, June 30, 2010: "Diets rich in vegetables and fruits have been shown to lower blood pressure and improve other cardiovascular disease risk factors...Persons who regularly consume such diets are at a lower risk of developing cardiovascular disease, particularly stroke."

In conclusion, a whole food puree product like Via 5 Alive appears to be defining the next generation of nutritional products for health.

As Keeland said to me, "Our vision is to lead people back to whole foods. Our puree condenses five servings of fruits and vegetables into one ounce. This gives the consumer a fast, easy and affordable way to feel younger while get healthier."
