Hall of Fame worthy: Ketchum, Wilmot latest to join elite of Plano Pacers

Published: Wednesday, April 25, 2012 1:21 PM CDT
Though the Plano Pacers Running Club has asserted itself as a force across the Metroplex, with more than 700 members, only a select few can lay claim to being Hall of Famers.

The Pacers will add two more to that list Saturday from Bob Woodruff Park when John Ketchum and Bob Wilmot join the list.

The Pacers, a group of competitive and recreational runners that is comprised of children, seniors and every age group in between, was founded in 1978. It wasn't, however, until 2009 that the organization established a Hall of Fame. The inaugural class consisted of Donna Smith, Dan Millet and Ken Ashby.

Ketchum and Wilmot become part of that group Saturday with a pair of stout resumes.

From 1993-96, Ketchum was the club's treasurer.

But even when not holding a defined office, Ketchum tacked on another decade-plus of service by partnering with others or taking ownership of functions from course set-up to race registration, race results, awards and everything in between.

From the mid-1990s through 2003, Wilmot was the public face of the Pacers.

Wilmot ran the gamut from handing out water to recruitment to serving as both the club's president and vice president. He is also the longest serving executive in club history.

For their contributions, Ketchum and Wilmot will be honored Saturday prior to the club's 3K and 8K Hall of Fame races. The presentations are set for 7:50 a.m. from the Woodruff Park pavilion.

Woodruff Park is the meeting place of the Pacers on the last Saturday of each month with the next event set for May 26 when the club holds its Remembrance Run 5K. For more information on either of those events, the Hall of Fame or the club in general, contact Don Wallace at: 972-658-6568 or: wall3ofus@hotmail.com.
