15-4A BASEBALL: Poteet, West Mesquite each shut out in season finale

Poteet and West Mesquite did not have anything at stake in Friday's season finales other than wanting to finish the year on high note.


It has been that kind of a season for both teams.

A year after advancing all the way to the Class 4A state tournament, the Pirates finished the 15-4A season with a 7-9 record after a 10-0 loss to Waxahachie on Friday.

West Mesquite faced a similar result, dropping a 12-0 decision to Forney to finish the year with a 3-13 mark in district play.

Corsicana, which had a bye on Friday, had already clinched the district championship and will be the top seed in the playoffs when they get started this week.

The Tigers will be joined in the postseason by Forney, Waxahachie and Red Oak.
