McKamy DI team places third at state
DI Area 51 -- McKamy Middle School's Destination Imagination team, placed third at the Texas State Tournament in Corpus Christi on April 14.
Approximately 430 teams from around the state competed. This win for the McKamy team qualifies them to compete in the global finals in Knoxville, Tenn. on May 22-26.
Team members are: Meredith Carlile, Casey Kassal, Hannah Mulholland, Liam Mulholland, Annie Sharp and Elizabeth Storrie.
DI Area 51 chose the Coming Attractions challenge this year -- creating and performing a live action movie trailer, titled Fishy Situation.
The DI Area 51 movie plot: A "killer" is rumored to be on loose in Japan. A Japanese spy invites his Finnish spy friend to Japan for a visit and tea ceremony. While in Japan the Finnish spy learns of the "killer" and the spies are assigned to "Finnish" him. The spies take action to catch the "killer." The trailer leaves you wondering if there is really a killer on the loose or perhaps a big misunderstanding.
The team worked countless hours this year brainstorming, researching, writing scripts, producing an original sound track, building props, making costumes and amazing technical special effects.
Carlile said, "It feels great to know that all our hard work has paid off. It's even better having this experience with great friends."
The McKamy team is currently fund raising to cover their portion of the trip.
