Eagle Scout award to be presented

Published: Tuesday, May 1, 2012 12:10 PM CDT
Robert James Sharp, of Highland Village, has earned the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offers to Scouts, the Eagle Scout Award.

Sharp will be recognized in a ceremony on Sunday.

A member of the Longhorn Council; Troop 451, Sharp is one of approximately 4 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank, according to Scoutmaster Scott Perry.

Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community or church service project to earn his Eagle; Sharp chose to revitalize Pilot Knoll Primitive Camp Sites by adding Primitive Camp Site Markers and Picnic Tables.

Sharp has served as patrol leader and troop guide and is a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, which is a scouting honor society. Sharp joins other outstanding American citizens who have become Eagle Scouts, among them former President Gerald R. Ford, Jr., Astronaut Neil A. Armstrong, Cinematographer Steven Spielberg, and the head of the F.B.I., William Sessions. Sharp is a member of St Phillips Church and is active in Lake Dallas Band at Lake Dallas High School, where he is a senior. He is the son of Jim and Nancy Sharp and Polly Sharp of Highland Village and Lake Dallas.
