Running for District 4

Published: Tuesday, April 24, 2012 5:30 PM CDT
In the upcoming General Election in Little Elm, three candidates are running for the position of District 4 on the Little Elm Town Council. The position is for the remainder of the unexpired term. Candidates include Jim Manning, Chip Norman and Robert Burke.

The General Election Day is May 12. Visit www.littleelm.org for information on voting locations.

Manning

Jim Manning has placed his bid for candidacy for the position of District 4 because of his past experience of serving on the Town Council.

"I feel my experience of over eight years [on council] will allow me to fill the one-year unfilled term without having such a new learning curve," Manning said. "I hope to help the town prosper and foster new teamwork throughout."

Manning has served on various town committees as well, which has allowed him to communicate to all of the residents of Little Elm.

"I have a deep concern to see the citizens, town employees and businesses move forward together," Manning said.

Manning said there are many major changes facing the Town of Little Elm such as road construction and a bridge and projects in progress such as the Senior and Recreation Centers and the Animal Control Center. With all the changes, Manning said, there is always plenty to oversee, advise and recommend, but he hopes to improve that communication.

"By getting involved and listening to the concerns of our citizens and recommendations of the town management, I hope to improve communications between all to see the town prosper and continue to move forward during construction changes and normal growth changes," Manning said. "I hope to improve the relationship between the business owners and the town."

Manning said his working relationships with the town and residents will be a positive move to further improve on achieving progress while keeping an eye on the financial stability.

"I ask for your support in District 4 to allow me to bring my experience and involvement forward," Manning said.

Norman

Chip Norman wants to be an active part of the community in Little Elm and to ensure the safety and prosperity of the town and those that live in it, which has encouraged him to run for District 4.

"I have lived in Little Elm for the past six years and have loved my experience here," Norman said. "I have watched our town grow and believe that we still have more to do."

Norman said he is interested in commerce that will bring value to homes in Little Elm, but not overrun the town with business to the point of losing the "great family feel that it has today."

"The biggest concern I see with our community is how high our tax rate is today," Norman said. "I would like us to continue to bring in great family-oriented businesses that strengthen our town so that we can pay off our bonds and reduce our taxes."

Norman said residents should vote for him because he is a "leader that is only interested in being a representative of our district" and will do his best to strengthen the Town of Little Elm.

Burke

Robert Burke believes that all residents have a responsibility to participate in governing, which has prompted him to place his bid for District 4 candidacy.

"I have varied experiences and no preformed agenda," Burke said. "I will listen to requests to the board and vote after serious consideration of the issue."

He believes the greatest problem facing the Town of Little Elm is improving infrastructure.

"Much is being currently done, so I would help continue the program in process," Burke said.

Burke is a member of the Parks and Recreation Board and has previously served on the 2009 Bond Committee.
