LEHS principal resigns

Published: Thursday, April 12, 2012 4:06 PM CDT
At the end of March, the Little Elm ISD said goodbye to Little Elm High School Principal Charles Lester, who put his resignation in to pursue other opportunities outside the school district.

LEISD Superintendent Lynne Leuthard said Lester left the district for the "best interest of him and his family."

"I think everyone was surprised by it," Leuthard said. "He's just looking for other opportunities for him and his family."

Lester had been with LEISD for a little over a year-and-a-half. Leuthard said the district will soon have a public forum to get input from the community about what qualities residents would like to see in the next principal, who will be able to start at the beginning of June.

Until then, Leuthard has stepped up to help the school's four assistant principals because of her previous experience as a high school principal.

"I know what needs to get done, and what high school likes to get done," Leuthard said. "I have a principal door and one superintendent door."

She said she is meeting weekly with the assistant principals and bi-weekly with department heads to supervise the daily operations of the high school and the transition during the search for a new principal. She also helps monitor the halls in the morning among other duties.

"It's a challenge," Leuthard said. "[But] I have a strong leadership team that I can delegate other things to."

Another change in leadership is Dr. Anna King, principal of Lakeside Middle School, will be moved to the administrative department to become the coordinator of College and Career Readiness. She will be taking the duties of Kristi Hargrove, who will now lead the planning and implementation of a secondary alternative education center at King Learning Academy next fall.

The tiered-model school will help students who are at-risk of not graduating on time or have a difficult time maintaining progress by placing them in an alternative learning environment.

"It's to help kids catch up and get back on track," Leuthard said.
