Lucrative IT Certifications Offered at North Lake College
New Program Expects to Double Enrollment
By Marielle Perrault
IRVING, Texas- Today nearly 40 percent of infrastructure budgets are allocated to storage-related products and services. Perhaps explaining why a recent survey of over 40, 000 IT professionals from 150 countries ranked EMC certifications, including EMC Storage, among the highest average salaries based on certification.
North Lake College (NLC) has decided take their students where the action is. Believing the nation’s incredible growth of data represents an untapped opportunity for students and universities to help businesses take control of managing the data, NLC is now officially partnering with VMware Inc., a visualization software company and subsidiary of EMC Corporation. NLC is the first campus in the DCCCD to offer VMware Academic Alliance and EMC Storage and one of only two programs in the DFW area. Headed by Gregory Newman, the program is competitively priced and even offers online classes for increased accessibility.
“Most of the students coming are industry seasoned students with anywhere from three to five to ten years working in IT,” says Newman. “In the future…one computer will hold multiple systems on it. This is becoming the norm. IT students have to have it.”
“I have been making use of most of the topics that we discussed in the class, especially the lab exercises,” says Vara Kommoju, who took North Lake’s VMware 5.0 class. “These labs really gave me a good foundation…I made a good decision by attending this class.”
While many experienced professionals have decided to fill in the gaps of their conceptual understanding, 10 percent of enrolled students are new to the IT profession. These aspiring professionals recognize the unique opportunity to build a solid fundamental understanding of technology principles and concepts that are applicable across many IT infrastructure environments, regardless of vendor origin.
Students should have a basic understanding of Windows, Linux, Serverbase and network technologies including A+ and Cisco CCNA to enroll in VMAP. Current courses are offered as part of NLC’s Continuing Education programming.
