Lobos get close win over Denton
The Little Elm baseball team was in action on Tuesday with a district battle against Denton.
The Lobos came away from the contest with a 2-1 victory after keeping the Denton offense in check throughout the game.
The game made it two straight district victories for Little Elm after the team beat The Colony, 4-0, last Thursday.
Smith earned the win in that game as well, holding The Colony to four hits and shutting the opposition out.
The Lobos will now take on McKinney North in a Saturday contest, looking to make it three straight district wins.
Raccoons move back to .500
The Frisco baseball team got a key district win over Carrollton Newman Smith on Tuesday.
A 10-3 victory with senior pitcher Andrew Miller on the mound improved the Raccoons to 5-5 against District 9-4A counterparts and puts them into a two-way tie with Liberty for fourth place in the standings.
The win made it two straight victories over 9-4A foes after Frisco defeated Carrollton R.L. Turner, 3-0, on Thursday.
The Raccoons will look for the winning mark in district with a 7:30 p.m. game against Heritage tonight.
Avery named Player of Week
Allen Wranglers receiver Maurice Avery was called on plenty during last Saturday’s 86-57 win over the Nebraska Danger.
Avery was rewarded for his production as the league’s Offensive Player of the Week.
Avery, a fourth-year player out of Memphis, recorded four touchdowns on the night – two passing, one rushing and one receiving. He caught four passes for 35 yards and a touchdown in the first half before filling in at quarterback over the final two quarters, during which he threw for 94 yards while adding 31 yards on the ground.
