City hall to host council debate
By Chris Roark, croark@starlocalnews.com
Residents will get a chance to hear what Southlake City Council candidates have to say about various issues during a debate April 16.
The event, which is sponsored by the Southlake Program for the Involvement of Neighborhoods (SPIN), will take place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Southlake City Hall, 1400 Main Street.
This year’s election will feature two candidates for Place 2, incumbent Carolyn Morris and challenger Greg Standerfer.
The debate will begin with each candidate introducing themselves and discussing their platforms. Residents in the audience will then be allowed to ask questions of the candidates.
Morris was first elected to the council in May 2002 and served until 2008 when her term expired. Southlake city charter allows council members to only serve two consecutive terms. Morris was re-elected in 2009.
Standerfer was elected to the council in 2000 and served until 2004 when he chose not to seek re-election.
Go to www.carolynmorris.org for information on Morriss and www.gregforcouncil.com for information on Standerfer.
Election Day is May 12. Residents can vote from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Carroll Senior High School. Early voting in Tarrant County will run from April 30 to May 8 at Southlake City Hall. Denton County early voting will take place April 20 through May 5 and May 7-8 at the Trophy Club MUD Building.
