The City of Coppell recently hosted the annual Employee Recognition and Awards Presentation Banquet last month, recognizing city employees for their outstanding public service and tenure. More than 90 employees were honored for multiple years of service as department directors emceed the event attended by more than 300 people.

City-Wide Awards went to Special Events Coordinator Kami Marcom, who was chosen to receive the ecoCoppell Award, Project Engineer Keith Marvin who was given the Team Player Award and Community Programs Supervisor Amanda Vanhoozier who was given the Standing Ovation Award.

Vanhoozier said she was nominated and the chosen by the city manager to receive her award.

"The Standing Ovation Award is validation and recognition of the value of community programs in Coppell and how I have contributed to their success," she said. "I tend to focus on involving the people served which results in a sense of community, enriched lives and mutual respect."

Marcom said she was chosen by the EcoCoppell Committee or the "Green Team."

"I am proud to accept this award," she said. "As a city, we put a lot of emphasis and effort on raising environmental awareness. To receive an award for these efforts is an honor."

Macom said the award shows the dedication and commitment provided to the community.

"I could not have made any of these enhancements without my co-workers," she said. "Together it is our civic duty to the citizens to provide them with opportunities to participate in issues that affect our community including the environment."

Marvin said he is happy to be able to make meaningful contributions to the Coppell community.

"To be recognized for those contributions by my coworkers makes it all the more rewarding," he said. "The Team Player award is given to an employee who by their own initiative makes contributions above and beyond normal daily expectations to an overall team effort in providing exceptional local government services to the citizens of Coppell as well as departmental and team goals."

Marvin said the city of Coppell is, "all about service."

"The reason we exist as an organization is to be of service to our citizens and the community," he said. "I work with a great bunch of people that understand that and it is a privilege to be part of that."

The Coppell Police Department awarded Public Safety Dispatcher Supervisor Alex Hernandez with the Civilian of the Year award. The department also awarded Sergeant William Knack the Supervisor of the Year award and Officer Walter Largent with the Officer of the Year award.
