Coppell chamber luncheon honors 56 military veterans

A total of 56 veterans of the different branches of military service came to a Coppell Chamber of Commerce luncheon Friday at the Hilton Garden Inn in Lewisville to be recognized and honored for their service to their country.
Tony Moline, chamber president and CEO, and Casey Klein, chairman of the chamber board of directors, took turns reading the names of each veteran who stood while the crowd was told when they served, what branch of the military they were in and what medals and honors they received.
At least 16 of them were veterans of World War II.
She said one of the first secrets of success is to “believe in yourself even though maybe no one else does.”
McCormick, who served as a chief warrant officer while in the military, said she was told over and over that the testing for the job was too difficult and that she should not waste her time and others taking the tests. She said, people would say, “Little girl, don’t you know how difficult this would be.”
She used the acronym CAN to use as a model for success in life, comparing it to a successful way to fly an aircraft.
She said people should determine their mission in life and then Communicate, Aviate and Navigate until they soar to accomplish their mission.
She also said people who sometimes are not considered leaders are thrust into a situation where they have to lead. She cited an incident in which she felt like she had to assume leadership although it was not really ordinarily her job.
“If you see a need, lead,” she said.
McCormick, who lives in the Dallas area, co-authored a book titled “Succeeding in Spite of Everything” ad and now writing another book to be named “Soaring Further.”
The luncheon began with the posting of the colors by a Coppell color guard and the singing of the National Anthem by City Manager Clay Phillips. The luncheon was concluded with the crowd singing “God Bless America.”
