Coppell police and members of the Texas Department of Public Safety's Highway patrol combined efforts Friday to arrest a man who was listed as one of Texas' Top Ten Most Wanted sex offenders.

Coppell police received a call about 7:45 a.m. from the DPS that Thomas Lee Elkins, 58, was reportedly on his way to Coppell as a passenger in a semi truck. He was said to be armed and dangerous.

About 30 minutes later, Coppell police and DPS highway patrol officers stopped the truck in which Elkins was a passenger and immediately took him into custody. The arrest was made in the 300 block of East Belt Line Road.

Elkins was arrested without incident.

Sgt. David Moore of the Coppell Police Department said Elkins was wanted in Harris County on a charge of “Crimes against person.” The Texas DPS' most wanted website reveals that Elkins has an extensive criminal history. He has been previously been charged with aggravated sexual assault, assault, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated rape, forcible rape, indecency with a child and aggravated battery.

He was placed in the custody of DPS Criminal Investigations agents.
