A click of the camera: City honors photographers

The Rowlett City Council recognized the winners of the Arts and Humanities Commission’s photography contest during its regular session on Tuesday, Oct. 2.
“It’s always an honor to have the privilege of giving the proclamations,” said Donna Davis, city councilwoman.
The photography contest is open to anyone that lives within the Lake Ray Hubbard area. Each entry was judged this year by professional photographer Cindy Serine.
“She has had shoots for Modern Bride and many other national magazines so it’s someone that is in that field and came to judge those photos for us,” Davis said.
The entries are divided into three categories – people, places and things. There are cash prizes awarded for the overall winner and the winner in each category. This year’s theme was All Things Texas. There were 12 entries into the contest this year.
This year two photographers swept the awards. The winner of the overall prize, as well as the people category was Charlene DeMauro. The winner in the other two categories was Rachael Herrman.
“I love to take pictures,” DeMauro said. “DeMauro said the photos she entered in the contest were of her niece’s children. “I do enjoy it and I really do appreciate this.”
“She calls me the family historian because I have tons and tons and tons of pictures; just everywhere,” DeMauro said, referring to her niece.
The two entries by DeMauro were her niece’s daughter posing and her niece’s son playing baseball.
“I love my cameras that I own. I got a special one to take of him playing sports so I can get up close to him out there on the field and then of course she’s a hoot,” DeMauro said.
“Beautiful work,” Davis said, referring to the winning entries.
Herrmann was not in attendance to receive her proclamation but her work was shown to those in attendance at the meeting.
