Two Frisco girls made it to the final round in their respective classifications at the Miss Teen Dallas and Miss Jr. Pre-Teen Dallas pageants on Nov. 4.
Sydney McDonald was named the second runner-up in the Miss Teen Dallas competition, which judged contestants on a personal interview, as well as casual and formal wear competitions.
Karina Kapoor made it to the final round as well, which placed her in the final five contestants in the Miss Jr. Pre-Teen Dallas competition.
"I enjoyed the competition and all the new friends I made," Kapoor said. "At the pageant, I learned lots of lessons that will help me in my future. The most important thing I learned is that this beauty pageant is not just for beauty. It includes your intelligence, your internal beauty, your talent and your outer beauty."
Because both girls advanced to the final round, they can compete in the national competition next December in Orlando if they so choose.
McDonald said the event was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that she'll never forget.
"I had an amazing time and have definitely made some new friends from the pageant," she said. "When we were all together and the top ten winners were to be announced, my heart was just pounding, and when my name was called I screamed and could not stop smiling for the rest of the evening no matter how badly my cheeks hurt."
McDonald added that while the event was competitive, it fostered a team-like experience for the contestants.
While McDonald is unsure whether she'll compete in the national competition as she plans on attending college next year, Kapoor said she's eager to compete on the next level.
"I can't believe it -- I never knew I could reach the nationals for this pageant," Kapoor said.
