Showtime! Prestigious all-star game tabs Eagles Stadium

If the NFL is inquiring of you by name, you know you've arrived.
The 6th annual Texas vs. The Nation all-star football showcase will be played this year at Eagles Stadium, it was announced during a press conference Tuesday in the press box. Kenny Hansmire, member of the American Football Coaches Association and chairman of this year's event, said a representative from the front office of the NFL in New York specifically requested Eagles Stadium as the venue. The game is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, the day before Super Bowl XLVII.
The game will tout 55 players on each team with the squads comprised of college football stars from either Texas or any of the other 49 states. Though a player may be a standout for Notre Dame, for instance, if he has Texas roots, then he may represent the Lone Star State. Texas leads the series, 3-2, following consecutive wins the past two years under former Dallas Cowboys Pro-Bowler Bill Bates as the team's head coach.
Hansmire said more than 200 scouts and general managers from the National Football League, which supports Texas vs. The Nation, are expected to attend.
"There will be 110 players combined on the teams and I promise you, 105 of these players will sign NFL contracts," Hansmire said.
AISD Superintendent Ken Helvey said Tuesday's announcement represented a culmination of the vision the school district had when it broke ground on the $60 million stadium.
"When we built this facility we had three objectives. We wanted a multi-purpose facility ... We wanted it to be for our fans, and then finally we wanted it to be something that could hold national events," Helvey said.
Hansmire noted the support given by the community that he has experienced has been refreshing.
"We haven't been told, 'No.' We haven't heard that we can't do that. This town is very, very special."
Cowboys legend Randy White said February's event will be something that will be talked about for some time to come.
"This is going to be great for your community, for your players, for everybody. Y'all are going to be hosting the No. 1 college football all-star game in the country. This will be something you will definitely be proud of," said the man known in his playing days as "The Manster."
Tickets for the event at the stadium that seats a reported 18,000 will be available to the general public on Dec. 10. Tickets can be purchased online at www.TexasVStheNation. Com. This year's game will benefit the FBI National Child ID Program, which will provide ID kits for all Allen ISD children who are interested.
