Frisco Dr. Pink soccer wrap-up
The high school soccer season got into full swing this weekend with the McKinney and McKinney North boys and girls teams playing in the Frisco Dr. Pink Invitational Tournament that began last Thursday. The McKinney North girls (1-1-2) defeated Plano East 2-0 in their first game of the tourney. North would go on to tie 1-1 against Canyon Randall before beating El Paso Del Valle 4-0. North would then tie 1-1 against Midlothian in their last game in the tournament.
The McKinney North boys (0-4), meanwhile, lost their opener to Midlothian, 2-0. The Bulldogs would lose their next three in the tournament, falling 3-2 to Wichita Falls Rider, 3-1 to El Dorado, and 2-0 to Amarillo Palo Duro. North returns to action 7:15 p.m. Friday at home against cross-town rival McKinney.
The McKinney Lions soccer team began its season with a 2-1-1 record. The Lions began the tournament with a 1-0 win over the home team Frisco Heritage, followed by a 1-0 loss to Houston St. Thomas and a 2-1 victory against Wichita Falls. McKinney finished the weekend with a 0-0 tie against El Dorado High in the consolation round.
Meanwhile, the Lionettes (3-0-1) defeated El Dorado 4-0 in their opening game of the Frisco tourney. McKinney followed this up with two more impressive 4-0 wins against Tascosa and Frisco Heritage and a 2-1 win over Frisco in their tournament finale.
Boyd boys and girls soccer action
As for McKinney Boyd, the boys team beat Arlington Martin 3-1 in their first game of the Richland Winter Blast tournament, before losing to Grapevine 1-0 then beating Haltom 3-0. The Broncos finished the tournament with a 0-0 tie to Southlake Carroll.
The Lady Broncos began with the Nolan Elite Prep tourney a 4-1 win against Lovejoy before beating Ursuline and St. Stehens, 3-1 and 3-0, respectively. Body would split its next two, losing 1-0 to Flower Mound before beating Keller 1-0.

Winter Games of Texas are here
For the eighth year in a row, The Winter Games of Texas (the state's largest multi-sport amateur competition) is coming to Collin County. The event is set for Jan. 18-20.
Close to 4,000 athletes and 15,000 spectators, coaches, referees and volunteers are expected to participate in this year's event, which features 13 different sports (basketball, Miracle League Bowling, fencing, figure skating, flag football, gymnastics, ice hockey, martial arts, soccer, swimming, volleyball, table tennis and the 2013 Texas State Weightlifting Championship, which is the latest addition to the annual slate of activities).
While most of the events are taking place in Frisco, the gymnastics portion of the competition will be Jan. 19-20 at ASI Gymnastics-Plano West (4051 Rosemeade Pkwy).
Those who medal in basketball, figure skating, gymnastics, soccer, swimming and table tennis advance to the 2013 State Games of America, which are July 31-August 4. For more information or to register, go to: taaf.com or call: 1-877-463-7472.
DFW Coaches clinic
High school coaches have a chance to learn from their own. On Jan. 23-25, Embassy Suites Outdoor World at DFW Airport will be the site of a DFW Coaches Clinic, featuring a litany of high school coaches as speakers. Sixteen 50-minute lectures will be given by the coaches on hand, with attendees slated to enjoy a Friday night "Chalk Talk" and dinner with one of the state's top offensive or defensive minds.
There will also be a Texas Hold-Em tournament on Friday, an FCA lecture on Saturday, plus a $1,000 cash prize up for grabs after the last lecture on Sunday. The clinic's registration fee is $70 if mailed in by Jan. 18 and $80 afterwards. To pre-register, visit the clinic website at coachesclinic.net.
