With their days at school in the distant past, McKinney senior citizens can return to classrooms and locker-filled hallways during the third annual MISD Senior Tour.

The free tour, coordinated by McKinney ISD Partners in Education, will run 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5. It will include a tour at various campuses, student entertainment and a closer look into today's academics.

Participants, who must be 55 and older, load onto a school bus that takes them to the campuses. During last year's tour, they visited McKinney Boyd High School, Faubion Middle School and Webb Elementary - to be greeted, guided and entertained at each location.

Student tour guides highlight what makes their place of learning special, pointing out its newest technology, available classes and the latest resources. Though likely a far cry from participants' earlier education experience, many have or recently had grandchildren attending local schools.

"I was tickled to find out they're teaching Chinese," said Jeannine Sellmeyer, a Lucas resident, during last year's walkthrough at Boyd. "This gives a whole cross-section, telling about all of the activities that they have. They didn't have these even when my kids graduated."

Participants will again receive a Senior Tour t-shirt and other items, and a mid-tour lunch will be provided. Space is limited, so McKinney ISD Partners in Education encourages those interested to sign up right away by contacting Nancy Cowlishaw at 469-302-4108, or by emailing tcollet@mckinneyisd.net.
