Ski Plano enjoyed another year of runaway success as more than 700 people sold out the event's 17th-annual run Jan. 26 at Southfork Ranch.
While the final amount of money raised for the Plano ISD Education Foundation has yet to be tabulated, organizers said they believe it comes close to the Foundation's goal of $200,000.
Guests, decked out in snow boots, scarves and sweaters, were treated to three different videos highlighting some of the more popular Foundation programs supported by the fundraiser, including the AVID college preparation program, Grants to Educators and Plano Family Literacy.
Silent auction items also ended up big earners, with two guitars, signed respectively by Bruce Springsteen and Taylor Swift, netting $1,500 each.
This year's emcees were Mabrie and Marshall Jackson. Mabrie said she enjoyed sharing the experience with her husband since they are both products of Plano ISD and met in the second grade at Shepard Elementary School.
"I think it went really well," Mabrie said, adding that she was impressed with people giving so much despite ongoing national economic worries. "It was nice to see a lot of familiar faces that have probably been in Plano a long time, but it was really exciting to see new people, or people who were newer to the community, really participating in making the school district a better place."
Kathy Schell, this year's Ski Plano chair, said the event went very well and had "lots of excitement in the air," with many guests dancing to the music of Custer's Last Band.
"We want to really think all of our donors and our underwriting sponsors, and we really appreciate all of the support they give to the Foundation," she said.
