Boys basketball: Jags clinch playoff berth with win over Marcus

FLOWER MOUND — With three games remaining in the District 5-5A season, Flower Mound’s boys basketball team can focus on seeding and hitting the playoff with momentum as the Jaguars clinched a playoff berth with a 59-52 win over Marcus.

The Jaguars (5-2) are in sole possession of second in the district with Marcus (2-5) one game behind Coppell (3-4) for the final playoff spot.

Justin Gammill scored nine of his game-high 24 points in the third quarter as the Jaguars built an 18-point advantage with 2:12 remaining.

Ryan Reibly chipped in 15 points to go with seven assists and seven rebounds for Flower Mound.

The Marauders had just 21 points with 2:21 remaining in the third quarter before erupting for 31 over the final 10-plus minutes.

Marcus got to within four at 49-45 following a pair of free throws from Michael Mayhew but never had a chance to get within one possession.

Jack Holden led Marcus with 16 points, while Michael Wheeler scored all eight of his points during the Marauders’ run in the second half.

Flower Mound continues at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Denton Ryan, while Marcus hosts unbeaten-in-district Hebron at the same time and date.
