William Robert Hollingsworth, 66, of Fairview, Texas, went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born to the late Tommie Elizabeth Kelly and Bryce Dudley Hollingsworth on January 27, 1947, in Marlin, Texas.Bill graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1965, attended Tyler Junior College, and received a Bachelor of Science in Business and Public Administration from the University of Texas at Dallas.
Bill fought a three-year battle with lung and colon cancer. Through his strong faith, determination and positive attitude, Bill persevered through numerous treatment regimens and was an inspiration to those around him. The family extends its heartfelt thanks to Dr. Haskell Kirkpatrick, Amy, Donna, Cathy and Nikki of Texas Oncology as well as Dr. David Gerber, Melissa, Katie, Ying and Rachael from UT Southwestern for their unwavering commitment and for sharing in Bill's journey.
Bill is survived by his wife, Lois, and two children, Matt and Lauren Hollingsworth, of Fairview, Texas, and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 11, 2013, at Ridgeview Memorial Park, Allen, Texas. A memorial service will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Allen sanctuary. The family will receive friends during a visitation on Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, Allen, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in memory of Bill be made to the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation. Bill would want others to continue his fight to finally overcome this disease.
