Frisco's Dr Pepper Ballpark is best known for serving as the home stadium of the city's baseball team, the RoughRiders. But its managers also hope to make a bigger splash in the community by hosting events.
When North Dakota State University fans came down to watch their football team play in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Game, for instance, the stadium hosted the university's pep rally.
"We have hosted hundreds of events over the years including weddings, rehearsal dinners, cocktail parties, company picnics, Halloween parties, casino parties, softball games and even concerts," said Billy Widner, senior vice president of the RoughRiders. "We can be very creative to accommodate different types of events."
Now the organization's making an even bigger push to bring more events to the area -- or to simply host events for local businesses.
The organization is hoping to make it easier to host events by making information more readily available to the public. That includes the launch of a website, www.friscoballparkevents.com, where all the pertinent information is available.
Included on the website is a form to submit questions directly to the organization as well as information about the ballpark's features and other options available, such as catering.
RoughRiders employees are contracted to help during the events, ensuring ballpark safety precautions are already known, Widner said.
He did have one suggestion for individuals and companies interested in renting the facilities, however: dream big.
"We have partnerships with several vendors in the area that help us create virtually any type of event you can imagine," Widner said. "We have had guests turn the entire ballpark into a haunted house or a giant carnival. The only limit is your imagination."
