After five seasons at the helm of the Plano Senior boys basketball program, Phil Parlin will no longer be the head coach for the Wildcats going forward.
Plano ISD announced the decision on Thursday that Parlin will not be returning as the team's head coach and that a search is underway to find a full-time replacement.
"We have appreciated coach Parlin's leadership in the basketball program at Plano Senior High," said Gerald Brence, Plano ISD athletic director, "and we know that he has made a difference to a number of our athletes. We are certain coach Parlin will continue to have an impact on students in our district, as he is an excellent educator."
Parlin had spent 15 years coaching at Plano, including a lengthy run as the varsity assistant coach that included the Wildcats' 2005-06 state championship, and took over the program as head coach in Apr. 2008.
The Wildcats made the playoffs twice under Parlin, although Plano has posted consecutive one-win district campaigns over the last two seasons -- going 1-13 in 2011-12 and most recently, capping a 1-9 run through District 10-5A. Overall, the Wildcats finished this season at 12-20.
Parlin will remain on staff as an educator and current assistant Jeff Vines will take over as interim head coach until a replacement is named.
