Lewisville chamber continues search for new president
By Heather M. Goodwin, hgoodwin@starlocalnews.com
More than one month after its past president resigned, the Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce (LACC) is still searching for a replacement.
"We're looking for an individual who has leadership and communication abilities. We want to continue our business friendly environment and grow our membership," Gary Lewis, member of the chamber's executive selection committee, stated in an email. "The chamber board and staff put in place an aggressive strategic plan at the end of 2012. We look forward to hiring an individual that can propel this plan forward over the next five years."
The executive selection committee, as formed by the LACC board of directors, has put forward its candidate profile and is requesting that all inquires and resumes by sent via email to info@lewisvillechamber.org.
"We have not set a time limit on the search," Lewis said. "A nationwide search is proceeding to find the right candidate. Certainly, we would expect to find the candidate in a reasonable amount of time."
Kellie Fister Stokes, chairwoman of the board of directors, stated in an email that the chamber has received several resumes and continues to receive more.
"Our committee reviews resume's each week," Stokes said. "Lewisville is a leading community in the both the county and state so this position has attracted a large interest."
The president of a chamber of commerce is in charge of being a business advocate for members, representing the area for new business relocations and advocating for members with city, county and state.
Lisa Hermes, vice president of the LACC, has assumed the interim president position following the departure of president Matt McCormick.
"This transitional period is important," Hermes said. "It is a time to show our members that we are operating business as usual and remain dedicated to serving as the voice of business throughout Lewisville and the North Texas region."
Hermes joined the LACC as the vice president in January 2011, previously having worked at the Rowlett Chamber of Commerce and McKinney Chamber of Commerce. With a background in journalism, Hermes got her start in the North Texas area while acting as managing editor for Inside Collin County Business.
Hermes is eligible to apply for the president position, and according to the selection committee, she plans to.
"This individual is very capable and experienced. We are very fortunate with depth of staff during this process. This is a time to embrace change," Stokes said. "We are a business-driven chamber that prides itself on the ability to present our members and business community with premiere programs and opportunities by which to create a sound business atmosphere for the Lewisville area."
