Children's Advocacy Center prepares for annual gala

The Collin County Children's Advocacy Center serves thousands of children each year who have undergone abuse and neglect at the hands of their parents or caregivers.
Unfortunately for the center, demand for its services has increased at a time when economic conditions have caused a slowdown in donations. Less than 15 percent of the center's funding comes from governmental agencies, so private donations are a necessity to pay for services such as forensic interviews and counseling.
Fundraisers are held throughout the year, but nothing compares to the center's annual gala, which raised more than $600,000 in 2012. This year's gala will be held April 13 at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas. Grammy-nominated rock band Foreigner will provide the musical entertainment at the event, which will also feature a live and silent auction, as well as a raffle for a new car.
Plano resident Cindy Sutley, the chairwoman for this year's event, said the goal is to surpass the money raised during the 2012 event that featured the Doobie Brothers.
"Although this gala is promising to be yet another fabulous and memorable event, it's all about the children we serve," she said in a press release. "We continue to raise the bar each year with our entertainment, exciting live and silent auction, hundreds of premium wines to bid on and the raffle of a brand new 2013 Lexus. This is the must-attend event of the year, and we're hoping to surpass 1,000 attendees."
Emerson said individual tickets and sponsorships are still available and may be purchased at caccollincounty.org. Only 2,000 raffle tickets will be sold for the Lexus, and they are available for $50 through the center's website.
