Major accident with pickup, dump truck on Highway 5 in McKinney

A major accident involving a dump truck and pickup truck occurred Friday morning where Spur 399 meets Highway 5 in McKinney, sending one driver to Parkland Hospital via air ambulance.
Witnesses told police the man driving the pickup truck failed to yield at a stop light at the intersection, and when he tried to turn, was struck on the passenger’s side by a dump truck traveling northbound on Highway 5, said Sgt. Chad Parker, McKinney police spokesman.
The impact forced the pickup truck to the west side of the highway into a concrete barrier, completely smashing in the front end, according to witnesses on scene. First responders found the man driving the pickup outside his vehicle on the passenger’s side, unconscious.
A medical helicopter transported the man to Parkland, where his condition is unknown at this point. Police said they know little of the man’s identity other than he’s approximately 28 years old. The driver of the dump truck was unharmed in the accident, said Barker, who added “it’s not thought to be intoxication-related.”
